Iranian Lawmaker Escalates Rhetoric Against U.S. and Israeli Leaders
An Iranian lawmaker has made strongly worded remarks targeting U.S. and Israeli leaders, marking a further escalation in rhetoric amid heightened regional tensions.
Alireza Salimi, a member of the presidium of Iran’s Parliament, was quoted on Wednesday as saying that Iran’s Supreme Leader had raised not only the issue of “revenge” but also qisas the Islamic legal principle of retributive justice, often translated as the law of retaliation.
According to the reported remarks, Salimi said the parliamentary position supports both revenge and qisas. He also claimed that U.S. and Israeli leaders had lost legal protection and made comments comparing their situation to that of author Salman Rushdie.
The reported statements have not been announced as an official Iranian government policy, and no formal legal action reflecting those remarks has been publicly issued.
The comments come as tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel remain high following months of military confrontations and diplomatic disputes, underscoring the increasingly confrontational rhetoric exchanged by officials on all sides.
