IRANIAN MISSILE STRIKE REPORTEDLY DAMAGES U.S. WARPLANES IN JORDAN
At least eight U.S. F-15 fighter jets were reportedly damaged, while an A-10 attack aircraft was severely damaged and lost a wing, during Iranian ballistic-missile strikes on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, according to U.S. officials cited by CBS News
U.S. forces reportedly launched more than 30 Patriot interceptor missiles in an effort to defend the base. The interceptors could have a combined cost of more than $120 million, based on estimated per-interceptor prices.
According to the reported account, four Iranian ballistic missiles penetrated the air defenses and struck within the base area.
If confirmed, the incident would mark a major escalation in Iran’s attacks on U.S. military infrastructure and could represent one of the most serious reported incidents involving damage to American combat aircraft during the conflict.
The reported damage and the extent of the Iranian missile penetration have not been independently verified.
