Iranian President’s Son Calls for Reconsidering the Costs of Uranium Enrichment
Yousef Pezeshkian, the son of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, has said that Iran’s survival does not depend on continuing uranium enrichment.
In an Instagram post, he argued that Tehran should carefully weigh the “costs and benefits” before making decisions about its nuclear program.
«“Our survival does not depend on enrichment. We will not die if we do not enrich uranium,” he wrote.»
Pezeshkian stressed, however, that he was not opposed to uranium enrichment and would respect any decision made by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and Supreme Leader.
He also noted that fuel for Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant is currently supplied by Russia, arguing that the country’s civilian nuclear energy program does not necessarily depend on domestic uranium enrichment.
The remarks come as the issue of uranium enrichment remains at the center of international tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear program.
