Iranian State Television Broadcasts Nuclear Explosion Survival Guide Amid Rising Tensions With US

Iranian state television has broadcast an eight-minute public safety guide explaining how civilians should protect themselves in the event of a nuclear explosion, as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high.

The educational footage, originally published by Iran’s state news agency IRNA on October 29, outlines survival measures against the effects of a nuclear blast, extreme heat and radioactive contamination.

The instructions advise people caught outdoors to avoid looking directly at the flash, take cover behind a solid barrier and protect their heads and faces. Once the initial blast wave passes, they should move into the nearest sturdy building.

Those indoors are advised to seek shelter in basements or central rooms away from windows and exterior walls, close doors and windows, and switch off air conditioning and ventilation systems that draw in outside air.

The guidance also explains how to reduce exposure to radioactive particles, including carefully removing potentially contaminated outer clothing, washing exposed skin with soap and water, and relying on bottled water and packaged food.

Citizens are advised to remain inside a shelter for at least 24 hours following a potential nuclear explosion and wait for official instructions before evacuating. Iranian emergency officials have also warned against taking iodine tablets without medical advice.

The broadcast was released during Iran’s annual Passive Defence Week, an initiative focused on preparing civilians for potential emergencies. However, its detailed nuclear survival instructions have attracted renewed attention amid speculation over possible US military action against Iranian nuclear facilities.

The publication of the guidance does not indicate that a nuclear attack is imminent, and there has been no official confirmation of an impending nuclear strike against Iran.
