IRGC Says Iran Seized U.S.-Owned REMUS 600 Underwater Drone in Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy says it has once again seized a U.S.-owned REMUS 600 autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) while it was operating in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

According to the IRGC, the operation involved intelligence collection and electronic warfare, with Iranian authorities alleging that the unmanned underwater vehicle was conducting surveillance and gathering data in the vital waterway.

Iran says the REMUS 600 is now in the hands of Iranian specialists, who are attempting to extract and analyze data stored inside the system.

If confirmed, the seizure would reportedly mark the second U.S.-owned underwater drone claimed by Iran this month. Iranian authorities previously said they had captured an Anduril Dive-LD on September 8.

The REMUS 600, developed for advanced underwater operations, is an autonomous system designed for missions including seafloor mapping, mine detection, hydrographic surveying and maritime reconnaissance.
