Is anyone buying fuel at K12, as promised by Hichilema? Kambwili asks Mwansabombwe voters
FORMER Patriotic Front Minister of Information Chishimba Kambwili has questioned whether any Zambian is buying fuel at K12 per litre, saying President Hakainde Hichilema has failed to fulfil several campaign promises made ahead of the 2021 General Election.
And Kambwili says President Hichilema did not deliver on his promises to reduce fuel prices and electricity tariffs, or to have ministers drive Toyota Corollas instead of luxury government vehicles.
Addressing a campaign rally in Mwansabombwe of Luapula Province alongside NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and running mate Makebi Zulu, Kambwili urged opposition political parties to unite behind the duo ahead of next month’s elections.
“All opposition political parties should come together and support Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu. After they win, those who want can return to their political parties, while those who wish can continue serving under the new government,” he said.
Kambwili accused President Hichilema of failing to honour key pledges he made while campaigning for office.
“He said he would reduce mealie meal prices to K50 and fertiliser to K250. He found fuel at K17 per litre and promised that once elected, fuel would cost K12. Is anyone here buying fuel at K12? When fuel prices go up, the prices of all commodities also increase,” he said.
Kambwili further claimed that the President had failed to reduce electricity tariffs as promised.
“In 2021, the electricity units you bought could last a month. Today, they barely last three days. He also promised to build universities in all provinces. Has he built any?” he asked.
He also questioned the President’s earlier pledge to dispose of expensive ministerial vehicles and replace them with Toyota Corollas.
“He said he would sell the big ministerial vehicles and that his ministers would be driving Corollas. Have they been sold? Are ministers driving Corollas?” Kambwili asked.
He further claimed that the promised employment opportunities for young people had not materialised, saying many youths remain unemployed and on the streets.
