ISRAELI SECURITY OFFICIAL WARNS OF SYRIA’S MILITARY BUILD-UP
An Israeli security official has launched a sharp attack on Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, accusing him of maintaining ties to his former jihadist ideology while adopting a more pragmatic approach to gain international legitimacy.
«“He has replaced weapons with a suit and tie,” the official reportedly said, arguing that al-Sharaa is acting with “great cunning” to secure international recognition.»
The Israeli official also claimed that Syria is rebuilding its military and seeking to acquire air-defense systems that could threaten Israel’s freedom of action in Syrian airspace.
The remarks highlight growing Israeli concerns over the transformation of Syria’s new leadership and the potential emergence of a stronger Syrian military and air-defense capability.
