Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, leader of the March and March movement, has strongly criticised Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama following his remarks about South Africa’s handling of recent xenophobic attacks.
Mahama had raised concerns over violence targeting foreign nationals in South Africa, saying Ghana was forced to organise evacuation flights for some of its citizens. He also called on the African Union to take the matter seriously and urged stronger action against those responsible for the attacks.
Responding to the comments, Jacinta Zuma accused Mahama of focusing on the wrong issue. She argued that he should instead address the conditions in Ghana that she believes are forcing many of his country’s citizens to seek opportunities abroad. She said African leaders should prioritise creating jobs and improving living conditions in their own countries.
The exchange has sparked widespread debate across social media, with some supporting Mahama’s call for better protection of foreign nationals, while others backed Jacinta Zuma’s view that African governments should first address the challenges driving migration.
