Jailed ex-Ndola Mayor gets 26,681 votes
IMMEDIATE past Mayor Jones Kalyati, who is currently serving a one year jail sentence with hard labour for threatening violence has come third in the Ndola Mayoral race.
Kalyati contested on the Resolute Party (RP) and secured 26,681 votes.
NRPUP’s candidate who is former deputy mayor, Kennedy Kasaba has emerged victorious getting 60,486 votes while UPND’s Sharon Nsofwa came second with 40,581 votes.

The irony is that Kalyati is Bemba for prison or jail.
“Ali mu kalyati” means “he is in jail”.
“Kalyati ali mu kalyati” – “Kalyati is in jail”.
