JERE QUESTIONS PAMODZI HOTEL’S MANUAL VEHICLE SECURITY SYSTEM

By: Mulabasa Staff Reporter

LUSAKA — Former Presidential aide and lawyer Dickson Jere has questioned the efficiency of the newly introduced security procedure at Pamodzi Hotel, where motorists are required to park and record their vehicle details in a register before being allowed onto the premises.

Jere said the procedure was causing unnecessary delays, particularly for motorists who are simply dropping off or picking up guests.

According to Jere, the manual registration process is resulting in vehicles building up at the entrance, creating congestion and potentially inconveniencing hotel guests and visitors.

He has instead called on the hotel to consider investing in modern security technology capable of automatically identifying vehicles entering the premises.

Jere suggested the use of number-plate recognition scanners, similar to systems used at airports, which can scan a vehicle’s registration plate and automatically trigger access.

He also suggested the use of technology capable of scanning vehicle discs as an alternative to the manual registration process.

Jere warned that the current system could become particularly problematic during major conferences and other high-profile events hosted at the hotel.

“Imagine a major conference at the hotel being delayed by that book,” Jere observed, describing the sign-in and sign-out procedure as old-fashioned.

He, however, acknowledged the importance of security at the hotel, arguing that the focus should be on finding a system that maintains security while improving efficiency and reducing congestion.
