Judgement reserved for November in Chifubu election dispute
…as defeated UPND candidate seeks to nullify results over alleged electoral irregularities

THE Ndola High Court has reserved its ruling to November 27, 2026, following final submissions in a heated parliamentary election petition concerning the Chifubu Constituency seat.
Former Chifubu Member of Parliament Lloyd Lubosha, who contested the August 13, 2026 general election on the United Party for National Development (UPND) ticket, is asking the court to nullify the victory of independent candidate Kondwani Winga.
Mr Winga was declared the winner of the August parliamentary race after securing 15,552 votes.
Mr Lubosha finished behind him with 8,322 votes, leaving a substantial margin of 7,230 votes.
Dissatisfied with the outcome, Mr Lubosha petitioned the results at the High Court, citing alleged electoral irregularities and naming the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) as a co-respondent.
During the course of the hearings, the court listened to testimonies from various witnesses.
This included local testimony from a registered voter in Chifubu Township who claimed irregularities involving voter inducement during the election cycle.
Legal counsel for both the petitioner and the respondent delivered their final arguments before the bench opted to adjourn and reserve its definitive verdict.
With all submissions now closed, attention shifts to the Ndola High Court bench.
The eagerly awaited judgement, set for delivery on November 27, 2026, will legally determine whether Mr Winga remains the legitimate representative for Chifubu in Parliament or if the constituency will face a court-ordered by-election.
