JULIUS MALEMA REJECTS XENOPHOBIA CLAIMS IN SOUTH AFRICA, SAYS A FEW GROUPS ARE TRYING TO DIVIDE AFRICANS WHILE CALLING FOR UNITY ACROSS THE CONTINENT
EFF President Julius Malema has rejected claims that South Africa is a xenophobic country, arguing that the actions of a small number of groups should not be used to define the entire nation.
Speaking at the Botswana National Front (BNF) National Conference in Botswana, Malema said South Africans do not subscribe to xenophobia and claimed that only a few groups were attempting to divide Africans and create hostility between neighbouring countries.
Malema also spoke about the close relationship between South Africa and Botswana, saying the people of the two countries are connected through families, marriages, education and shared history. He said these ties should never be broken by hatred or division.
His comments have sparked debate on social media. Some people agreed with his message of African unity and said the actions of a small number of individuals should not be blamed on an entire nation. Others argued that South Africa still needs to do more to address violence and hostility directed at some foreign nationals.
The EFF leader has consistently called for greater African unity, saying countries across the continent should work together instead of allowing division and hatred to weaken relationships between neighbouring nations.
