JULIUS MALEMA SAYS THE ANC HELPED THE FREEDOM FRONT PLUS GROW BY GIVING IT POWER AND RESPONSIBILITY IN GOVERNMENT, ACCUSING THE RULING PARTY OF LEGITIMISING A PARTY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHALLENGING!

EFF leader Julius Malema has criticised the ANC’s decision to bring the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) into the Government of National Unity, arguing that the move gave the party political recognition, influence and an opportunity to expand its presence in South African politics.

Malema’s argument is that the ANC helped legitimise the FF Plus by allowing it to become part of government and giving it access to positions of responsibility and the resources that come with participating in government.

He believes the ANC cannot complain about the growth and influence of parties such as the FF Plus when it has helped create opportunities for them to participate in national government

The FF Plus became part of the Government of National Unity after the 2024 national elections, with its leader, Pieter Groenewald, appointed Minister of Correctional Services.

Malema’s criticism raises questions about the ANC’s coalition strategy and whether bringing parties with different political positions into government has strengthened their influence.

The debate also comes as the FF Plus continues to seek support beyond its traditional voter base and position itself as a national political player.

For Malema, the issue is not simply about election numbers, but about the political consequences of giving parties government positions and legitimacy.

Do you agree with Malema that the ANC helped strengthen the Freedom Front Plus by giving it a place in government?
