Kalaba raises alarm over alleged plot against Mafinga South MP

Citizens First president Harry Kalaba has accused the UPND of applying the law selectively and raised alarm over what he says is credible information of an alleged plan to abduct Mafinga South MP Faith Munthali.

Lusaka, 7 September – Kalaba says it is contradictory for the UPND to have denied citizens an opportunity to challenge the presidential election outcome in court while its MPs are now using the courts to challenge parliamentary results.

He has called on police to investigate the alleged abduction plot and guarantee Munthali’s safety.

Kalaba has also criticised the arrest and prolonged detention of opposition supporters, claiming some have been held for up to 14 days without appearing before a court.

He has called for what he described as the unconditional release of all “political detainees” to allow dialogue, reconciliation and national healing.

The allegations surrounding Munthali’s safety have not been independently verified.
