KAMBENDEKELE, THE SPECIAL MEAL FOR LUVALE HUSBANDS

Likumbi Lya Mize Traditional Ceremony

In Luvale culture, when a wife serves food for the guest to eat together with her husband, she’s expected to set aside a special portion called KAMBENDEKELE.. This is reserved in case her husband isn’t fully satisfied after the group meal — he can eat it later.

But this tradition isn’t about being stingy — it’s actually a beautiful act of care.

Often, the head of the household will eat less during a shared meal to make sure visitors have enough.

So, it becomes the wife’s thoughtful duty to keep some food aside for him to eat later.

They say KAMBENDEKELE is the secret to a Luvale man’s heart. Some even call it KAPACHISO! 
