KASAMA MAYOR ARRESTED OVER ALLEGED TRESPASS AT ACTING PS’ RESIDENCE

Kasama Mayor Peter Chikweti-Yuda has been arrested and detained by police over allegations that he unlawfully entered the residence of Northern Province Acting Permanent Secretary Beauty Undi-Phiri.
Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi confirmed that the mayor was formally charged with criminal trespass on Friday, September 25, 2026, contrary to Section 306 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
The arrest follows a complaint lodged by Ms. Undi-Phiri over an alleged incident at her residence in Kasama District on August 14, 2026, at approximately 09:00 hours.
Police allege that Chikweti-Yuda, acting alongside other individuals whose identities have not yet been established, entered the property without lawful authority.
According to Chilabi, the group allegedly intended to intimidate the Acting Permanent Secretary and members of her family.
Chilabi said the mayor remains in police custody as investigations continue, with officers working to identify and apprehend the other people suspected to have been involved in the incident.
The case now places the Kasama mayor under criminal investigation, with police yet to conclude their inquiries into the alleged trespass and the identities of the other individuals involved.
