MWENDA ACCUSES STATE OF DELAYING JUSTICE IN MUNDUBILE’S BAIL CASE

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) president Kasonde Mwenda has accused the State of delaying justice in the constitutional bail application involving opposition leader Brian Mundubile, his deputy Makebi Zulu and 18 others.

Mr Mwenda said the State had asked for more time to prepare its response to the application after the accused were transported from Kabwe’s Mukobeko Maximum Prison to the Lusaka High Court.

He disclosed that the opposition leaders had been detained for two months without bail or appearing in court to answer charges of treason.

“Justice delayed is Justice denied,” Mr Mwenda stated, expressing concern over what he described as an abuse of power.

He further alleged that the detainees had been kept without food on the day of the court proceedings.

“Why arrest citizens before investigating?” he asked.

Mr Mwenda said the constitutional bail application was a fundamental right and urged supporters to continue praying for the detained opposition leaders.

The matter was adjourned to Wednesday
