KIKOMBWE IS NEW LUSAKA MAYOR, CHITAMBALA KISSES DUST
NRPUP mayoral candidate Gabriel Kibombwe has won the Lusaka mayoral election defeating Simon Mwewa Chitambala in the 2026 General Election.
The result marks a significant victory for NRPUP in Zambia’s capital, with Lusaka voters rejecting Chitambala and giving Kibombwe the mandate to lead the city.
Kibombwe’s victory adds to NRPUP’s reported gains in the 2026 elections as the opposition party makes inroads in several constituencies and local authorities countrywide.
Zambians went to the polls on August 13, 2026, to elect the President, Members of Parliament, mayors, council chairpersons and councillors.
