Kim Jong Un Calls for ‘Military Revolution’ to Strengthen North Korea’s Armed Forces
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for a military transformation focused on turning army companies into elite, self-reliant combat units, as Pyongyang pushes to strengthen its conventional military capabilities.
Speaking at a two-day conference of Korean People’s Army company commanders in Pyongyang on October 22–23, Kim urged units across the military to improve combat readiness, tighten discipline and modernize their capabilities.
He described the gathering’s central mission as building the country’s strongest army and accelerating a “military revolution” tailored to North Korea’s own approach.
The meeting marked the first military-wide gathering of company commanders since the ruling Workers’ Party’s Ninth Congress in February. Kim has also reaffirmed the country’s commitment to developing its conventional forces alongside its nuclear weapons and missile programs.
The remarks signal Pyongyang’s continued emphasis on strengthening frontline combat units and improving military preparedness amid persistent regional tensions.
