Kim Jong Un Crosses Newly Opened Bridge Into China as Pyongyang and Beijing Strengthen Ties
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited Dandong, China, on October 24, crossing the newly opened New Yalu River Bridge connecting China with North Korea’s border city of Sinuiju.
During the visit, Kim met senior Chinese official Wang Huning and toured a memorial honoring Chinese soldiers who fought alongside North Korean forces during the Korean War.
The visit comes as Pyongyang and Beijing seek to strengthen economic cooperation and expand cross-border trade following the bridge’s opening earlier this month, after years of delays.
The development also highlights North Korea’s efforts to balance its longstanding relationship with China while deepening military cooperation with Russia, as Pyongyang navigates an increasingly complex regional and international landscape.
