KING OYO WAS MISDIAGNOSED IN UGANDA — PRINCESS KOMUNTALE REVEALS
Princess Ruth Komuntale, sister to the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, has revealed that the Tooro King spent more than a year seeking medical attention in Uganda for persistent pain before he was eventually diagnosed with cancer.
Speaking during King Oyo’s farewell service at St. John’s Cathedral in Fort Portal on September 12, 2026, Princess Komuntale said the cancer had already advanced by the time the correct diagnosis was made.
“The King was misdiagnosed in Uganda. By the time he received the proper diagnosis, the cancer had spread all over the body and had affected many organs of the body.”
King Oyo, who became Tooro’s monarch at just three years old in 1995, died in the United States on August 27, 2026, aged 34, after battling angiosarcoma.
The revelation has deepened the grief surrounding the King’s death and renewed public concerns over delayed diagnosis and challenges within Uganda’s healthcare system.
