KZN TIKTOKER MAX MAKHANYA APPEARS IN DURBAN COURT AFTER VIDEO TARGETING GENERAL NHLANHLA MKHWANAZI — FACES CHARGES OF CRIMEN INJURIA AND INCITEMENT TO COMMIT VIOLENCE!

Popular KwaZulu-Natal TikToker Max Makhanya has appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court following his arrest over a video allegedly targeting provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

According to reports, Makhanya accused the commissioner of remaining silent while protesters were allegedly being brutalised by police officers. He also allegedly used insulting language directed at the senior police official.

Police say the 38-year-old was arrested on Sunday, 1 November, at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu. He faces charges of crimen injuria and incitement to commit violence.

Reports also indicate that Makhanya had deleted the video and apologised before his arrest. However, the full video and the exact words police consider incitement have not been publicly released.

The case has sparked debate about freedom of expression, criticism of public officials and the limits of what people can say on social media.

Makhanya is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Do you believe public figures should be allowed to strongly criticise police leadership, or should people face criminal charges when their statements allegedly cross the line into incitement?
