LET CHIPOKA MULENGA WORK — SICHULA

Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) President George Sichula has called on the people of Zambia, particularly the people of Chingola, to give newly elected Chingola West Member of Parliament Chipoka Mulenga an opportunity to work and deliver development to the constituency.
Sichula, who previously served as Chingola District Commissioner, NDC Copperbelt Provincial Chairperson and later NDC President, is currently serving as First Secretary (Economics) at the Zambian Embassy in Nigeria.
The National Democratic Congress is in Alliance with the UPND and Sichula played a very vital role prior to 2021 general elections.
Commenting on the recent debate surrounding Hon. Mulenga’s decision not to swear an oath, Sichula said an oath is a solemn commitment to public duty, but noted that Mulenga had explained that his position was guided by his understanding of Matthew 5:34–37.
Sichula said people may interpret Scripture differently, but sincerely held matters of conscience should be respected.
He, however, stressed that the people are ultimately more interested in performance, integrity and service delivery than ceremony.
“An oath has meaning when it is followed by integrity, service and delivery. What benefit is there in making solemn promises if a leader ultimately fails to serve the people?”
Sichula described Chipoka Mulenga as a hardworking and energetic public servant, saying that energy should now be directed towards addressing the challenges and opportunities facing the people of Chingola West.
He has therefore urged political actors and members of the public to avoid unnecessary drama, personal attacks and distractions, and instead give the newly elected MP the space to serve.
“Chingola needs unity, development and results. The time for political noise is over. Now is the time to work. Let Chipoka work, and let his performance speak for him,” Sichula said.
