Lethal use of force in Mundubile raid, Makebi arrest mounting public anxiety – EU EOM

THE European Union Election Observer Mission (EU EOM) has raised concerns over the lack of information surrounding a raid at a private residence linked to main opposition leader Brian Mundubile, describing the alleged use of lethal force during the operation as a source of mounting public anxiety.

In its final report published yesterday, the observer mission says security-related actions and the tense environment in the country lend credibility to concerns about an alleged shrinking democratic space.

The mission further says the physical shutdown of access to the courts between August 24 and 26 curtailed access to justice and electoral due process.

The report also raises concerns over the Electoral Commission of Zambia’s (ECZ) alleged failure to publish the August 13 election results to date.

Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema yesterday met the observer mission team, led by Chief Observer Michael McNamara.

The Head of State thanked the mission for its recommendations contained in the report and reaffirmed Government’s commitment to democratic reforms, saying democracy remained an important pillar of the Grow Zambia Agenda.

Earlier, Chief Government Spokesperson Elvis Nkandu challenged parts of the EU EOM final report, arguing that some of its findings did not reflect the country’s security situation.

He said some political actors and their supporters had been under investigation for some time over serious allegations of criminal conduct.

  1. So these EU chaps want to dictate how we handle criminal suspects?

Go anywhere in the world, any country, the protocol is the same. When security officers knock on your door and you respond by firing an AK47 at them, they will not throw flowers and a birthday cake bacl at you. By firing at them you are admitting that you are guilty. And they are authorised to deescalate the situation.
One army officer was wounded by gun fire from late Kafwaya. Whose life is of greater importance in an exchange of fire?
Kafwaya was a casualty. Not a victim.
Anyone hallucinating about an independent investigation will be very disappointed.

Playing the everlasting victim will not secure the release of treason suspects. Because of the misinformation being propagated, the State is duty bound to correct the narrative by exhausting the court process. Treason cases take 10 to 15 years. So just get comfortable with staying in yowa new residence, Mukobeko prison, for the next 15 years.
