Dancer breaks silence over leaked private video, apologises to Shai family
South African dancer Matome Robert Mahlatsi Thoka, popularly known as Limpopo Boy, has broken his silence over the leaked private video controversy, claiming he only discovered that the woman involved was married after the footage surfaced.
In a statement dated August 12, Thoka said he should have independently verified her marital status before becoming intimate with her, admitting that he exercised poor judgement.
“I only discovered after the video was leaked that she was married.”
Thoka apologised to the woman’s family and to those who had been hurt or disappointed by the controversy.
He also specifically apologised to the Shai family, saying he regretted the pain he had caused.
“That’s not how I was raised. I’m not a home wrecker,” he said.
Thoka said he was raised in a Christian family that respects the sanctity of marriage and condemns adultery and infidelity.
Acknowledging the consequences of his actions, he said he was choosing humility over defensiveness and would use the controversy as a lesson.
“I’m not a saint, I’m not perfect either,” he said.
The dancer said he understood that public trust could not be repaired through words alone.
“I know that trust is not restored through statements. It is restored through time, accountability and actions,” he said.
He ended his statement by apologising to his family, those who had supported him and South Africans who felt hurt or disappointed.
“I ask for an opportunity to do better,” he said.
