LINCOLN LOCKDOWN: U.S. WAR MACHINE ENCIRCLES IRAN

The USS Abraham Lincoln has taken up position in the Arabian Sea as the United States launches a high-stakes naval squeeze on Iran, deploying more than 10,000 troops, 12 warships and over 100 aircraft in a bold show of force.

The mission is razor-focused: seal off Iran’s ports while keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, avoiding disruption to the vital shipping lane that carries a huge share of the world’s oil.

It is a dangerous balancing act. Washington is tightening the screws on Tehran without choking global energy supplies, but the pressure is mounting fast. Every day the blockade continues increases the risk of an Iranian response and any confrontation in or near the Strait of Hormuz could shatter the strategy overnight.

With tensions rising in one of the world’s most volatile regions, the Lincoln strike group now sits at the centre of a military standoff that could spiral far beyond Iran’s coastline.
