The football world is reeling from the tragic death of Liverpool FC star Diogo Jota, aged 28, in a car accident in northwestern Spain.

The crash occurred near Palacios de Sanabria on the A-52 highway, when the Lamborghini Jota was driving veered off the road and ignited after a tire blowout during an overtaking maneuver.

His brother, Andre Silva, a 26-year-old professional footballer, also died in the accident. Emergency services confirmed both fatalities at the scene.

Jota, who married Rute Cardoso just last week, leaves behind three children.

Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença expressed deep sorrow, stating, “Diogo’s nearly 50 international caps and his warmth off the pitch made him a cherished figure.”

Since joining Liverpool from Wolverhampton in 2020, Jota was instrumental in securing the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup titles.

His electrifying presence endeared him to fans globally. Liverpool FC has yet to comment officially, but tributes are flooding in for the beloved striker.
