Losing United Party for National Development (UPND) parliamentary candidate for Mwense Constituency, Susan Mulala, has petitioned the election of David Mabumba as Member of Parliament.
Ms. Mulala is seeking the nullification of Mr. Mabumba’s election following the August 13, 2026 general election.
According to the final results, Mr. Mabumba polled 13,852 votes, while Ms. Mulala received 5,262 votes, giving the former Cabinet minister a victory margin of 8,590 votes.
Mr. Mabumba, a former minister’s victory marked his return to Parliament.
However, Ms. Mulala has now formally challenged the outcome of the Mwense parliamentary election through an election petition, seeking to have Mr. Mabumba’s victory nullified.
The matter is expected to be determined by the courts in accordance with the country’s electoral laws.
