LUAPULA SUGILITE GATE SCANDAL- POLICE COMMAND EFFECT TRANSFERS
The Zambia Police Command today has effected high-level transfers that have seen Luapula Police Commissioner being moved to Northern Province, while Western Commissioner has been redeployed to Luapula.
Highly placed sources have told KBN TV that a yet to be named Senior Police Officer from Police Headquarters is due for redeployment to Western Province.
Those familiar with the transfers say the move comes in the wake of the Sugilite mineral scandal in which top Government Officials in the New Dawn Administration have been named.
When contacted for a comment, Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale said the transfers were not newsworthy but would be published at an appropriate time.
In a related development, some senior Government officials in Luapula Province are alleged to have been arrested today in the wake of the Sugilite mineral scandal.
At Press time, Mwale said although aware of the arrests, Police were yet to issue a statement on the arrests as the communication unit was still waiting for further details.
Our investigation reveals that Police in Western Province recently impounded a truck load with 16 tonnes of Sugilite disguised as Manganese.
The truck was also being escorted by four (4) Police Officers who have since been arrested.
Sources say the arrested officers revealed that the seized contraband was linked to very senior Government officials, including a George Mwiinga, indentified as a cadre employed as part of State House Security.
KBN TV understands that the cartel involves a very senior officer at Ministry of Mines, a top provincial administration official in Luapula, some District Commissioners in Luapula, some named Police Commissioners in Luapula and Milenge District as well as a named provincial Youth Chairperson in Luapula.
Meanwhile, sources have told KBN TV that there are manoeuvres to replace auditors at the Auditor Generals Office with those deemed friendly to the new administration.
Our reporters understand that the development is being necessitated in an attempt to cover up potential corruption scandals including irregularities in the awarding of fertilizer supply contracts from being unearthed.
