Lula’s Latest Meltdown: Brazil’s “Leader” Calls Trump an Imbecile While Pretending His Own People Won’t Pay the Price
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took the stage in Catalão and treated a crowd to one of his classic performances: loud, arrogant, and completely detached from reality. Facing the prospect of American pressure under Trump, the Brazilian president didn’t offer a defense of his country’s interests. He offered a tantrum.
“Damn, Trump, Trump is going to give Lula a beating, thinking about Lula, because Lula is going to win the election and Trump won’t allow it, harming Lula,” he said. “Imbecile, he doesn’t know that he won’t harm Lula, he’s going to harm the Brazilian people, he’s going to harm the Brazilian businessmen.”
Read that again. Lula’s argument is that Trump is an imbecile for thinking he can hurt him personally. The real damage, Lula admits, will land on ordinary Brazilians and the people who actually create jobs. That’s not a rebuttal. That’s a confession. He just told the country that any American response to his government’s behavior will fall on them, not on him—and then laughed about it.
This is the same man who spent years posing as the champion of the poor while Brazil’s economy stagnated, crime stayed high, and his political allies treated public office as a personal ATM. Now, with Trump back in the picture and Brazilian businesses already watching the exchange rate and export markets, Lula’s answer is to call the American president names and insist he’ll win the next election anyway. The “fraudulent president” label his critics use didn’t come from nowhere. When a leader’s first instinct is to mock foreign pressure while openly admitting his own people will take the hit, it’s hard to argue the title doesn’t fit.
Lula isn’t protecting Brazil. He’s protecting Lula. The businessmen he mentioned in the speech know it. The workers who depend on those businesses know it. And the more he pretends the only person who matters in this equation is himself, the more obvious the performance becomes.
