Lumezi man buries two siblings alive, one dies another informs family
A MICE hunting expedition in Chimphempo Village of Lumezi District in Eastern Province has turned tragic after an unknown man lured two mice hunting siblings into the bush, dug a pit, dragged, and buried them it.
Details as shared with TV Yatu by Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba are that, yesterday around 10:00 hours in the morning, he and others left their homes to attend a funeral.
And at around 14:00 hours, two siblings, Matias Banda, 8, and his sister, Agness Banda 9, left home to hunt for mice at a distance of about 1.5 kilometers away from home.
On their way to catch mice, the two juvenile siblings met an unknown man who asked them where they were going. When they told him they were hunting mice, he told them that he would show them where they would find more mice.
Excited about the possibility of finding more mice, the two children unsuspectingly followed the man.
After a distance, the unknown man stopped, and started digging a mice burrow with a hoe the two children had carried.
Believing he was helping them hunt for mice, the two children watched him dig the burrow, on and on.
“To the surprise of the children, he dug a big pit and thereafter, grabbed both children and threw them into the pit and buried them before he fled the scene,” Mweemba narrates.
He says the female juvenile, Agness Banda, 9, managed to unbury herself, and ran back home where she alerted people about the incident.
On hearing this, villagers rushed to the scene of the incident and found 8-year-old Mathias Banda buried.
They quickly unburied the boy who unfortunately had already died.
The matter was reported to the Police and officers from Lumezi Police Post who rushed to the scene, inspected the body and examined the scene.
They thereafter instituted investigations to try and identify the suspect and bring him to book.

I honestly didn’t know that evil had reached this level in Zambia. Police have recruited experts in various fields in the service. These experts should be able to establish the motive for such evil acts. There’s something going on in society that we do not know. Is it rampant dopping? Is it inability to cope with life’s challenges in a more innovative way?
