Lungu dies weeks before his 76th birthday!
FORMER Deputy Defence Minister, retired Colonel Joseph Lungu, has died at the age of 75, just weeks before his 76th birthday.
Colonel Lungu, who served as Director of Finance in the Zambia Army before his retirement, died yesterday afternoon.
His son, Joseph Lungu Jr., confirmed the death of his father, saying he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Maina Soko Medical Centre after he was found unresponsive in his bedroom.
In a statement, the Zambia Army described Colonel Lungu as a dedicated and distinguished officer who served the nation with honour.
Army Commander Lieutenant General Geoffrey Choongo has since conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.
Beyond his military career, Colonel Lungu also served as Member of Parliament for Msanzala Constituency in Eastern Province.
He was due to celebrate his 76th birthday on August 8.
