LUSAKA MAYORAL PETITION COLLAPSES AS KIBOMBWE SIGNS CONSENT AGREEMENT
The legal challenge to Lusaka’s mayoral election has collapsed.
The Local Government Elections Tribunal heard that losing candidate Gabriel Kibombwe has signed a consent agreement in favour of Mayor-Elect Chitambala Mwewa.
Kibombwe had petitioned the Tribunal to nullify Mwewa’s election. Mwewa won with 200,029 votes to Kibombwe’s 195,041, a margin of 4,988.
The agreement brings the dispute to an end and clears the way for Mwewa to lead the capital.
