MACRON AND TRUMP IN NEW YORK: ‘FRANK’ DISCUSSION ON UKRAINE
French President Emmanuel Macron is due to meet U.S. President Donald Trump in New York on Monday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Macron said he wants to have a “frank” discussion with Trump ahead of the UN’s high-level meetings.
According to BFMTV, the talks are expected to focus in part on the war in Ukraine. Sources cited by the French broadcaster said Macron wants to encourage Trump to maintain support for Kyiv and continue pressure on Moscow.
The meeting comes as Western leaders consult over the future of international support for Ukraine and the prospects for a potential diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
The Élysée Palace also confirmed that Macron will hold an extended working session with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his stay in New York.
