MACRON SAYS EUROPE IS OLD AND CHINA IS KILLING ITS INDUSTRY
Emmanuel Macron has a message for Europe. We are aging. China is destroying us.
He is half right.
Europe is aging. Its population is shrinking. Its workforce is retiring. Its birth rates are below replacement. It has no plan to reverse it.
But China is not destroying Europe. Europe is destroying itself.
Europe closed its cheap Russian gas pipelines. It sanctioned the supplier next door. It replaced cheap energy with expensive American LNG. It sent its factories to the wall.
Europe put tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. Then it complained when China retaliated on European brandy and pork. It wanted to sell cars to China while blocking Chinese cars from Europe.
Europe followed Washington into a war with Russia. It funded a proxy war in Ukraine. It spent 300 billion euros on a conflict it cannot win. It drained its own treasury.
Europe let its industrial base rot while China built the largest manufacturing ecosystem in human history.
China did not destroy Europe. China outcompeted it.
Chinese workers built the factories. Chinese engineers designed the products. Chinese companies invested in research. Chinese planners built the infrastructure.
Europe did the opposite. It outsourced its production. It closed its mines. It offshored its manufacturing. It relied on cheap labour abroad and cheap energy from Russia.
Now the energy is gone. The labour is expensive. The factories are closing.
Macron is blaming China for a problem Europe created.
The West has a habit. When it loses, it blames someone else. When its industry collapses, it blames China. When its wages stagnate, it blames immigrants. When its wars fail, it blames Russia.
It is never their fault. It is always someone else’s.
Macron is not describing reality. He is describing his own failure.
What happens when the continent that started the industrial revolution cannot build a factory that competes with China.
