MACRON SAYS HE AND TRUMP AGREE TO PROTECT THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ AND PUSH FOR AN ENERGY TRUCE IN UKRAINE
French President Emmanuel Macron said that after arriving in New York, he met with U.S. President Donald Trump and agreed to coordinate efforts over two major crises affecting global security and the economy.
According to Macron, France and the United States will work together to protect critical infrastructure in the Middle East, stabilize energy markets and support freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil and gas shipments. Maritime traffic through the waterway remains severely disrupted amid the ongoing war and threats to commercial shipping and energy infrastructure.
Macron also said France and the United States will work toward a moratorium on attacks against energy facilities and other civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.
«“Civilian populations must be protected, and we must establish as soon as possible a serious negotiation on the conditions for peace between Russia and Ukraine,” Macron said.»
The initiative comes as Washington pushes for a reciprocal halt to Russian and Ukrainian attacks on refineries, power plants and other strategic infrastructure.
However, no final agreement involving all sides has been confirmed, and attacks have continued.
The proposed approach would connect the protection of civilians and energy infrastructure with efforts to stabilize global energy supplies. The key challenge will be securing agreement from Moscow and Kyiv on clear, verifiable conditions and ensuring that any temporary moratorium can be sustained.
