Major Incident Declared Near RAF Fairford as Several Men Arrested Under Explosives Act

British police have declared a major incident near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire after several men were arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act.

Authorities evacuated residents from a number of properties in the nearby village of Whelford and moved them to a temporary shelter at a local leisure centre.

Army specialist explosive ordnance disposal teams were deployed to examine several vehicles, while armed police, ambulances and fire crews established a security cordon around the area.

Police said the incident remains contained as the investigation continues.

RAF Fairford is used by the U.S. Air Force for heavy bomber operations and has recently supported American military operations against targets in Iran.
