MAJORITY OF ZAMBIANS HAVE AGREED THAT PRESIDENTIAL TERM LIMITS SHOULD BE REMOVED, SAYS MARK SIMUUWE.

United Party for National Development (UPND) Media Director Mark Simuuwe has claimed that the majority of Zambians have agreed that the constitutional provision limiting presidential terms should be removed.

Mr Simuuwe says only a few individuals, whom he associates with the opposition, are opposed to the idea of removing presidential term limits.

His remarks are likely to reignite the debate surrounding Zambia’s constitutional provisions on presidential tenure, particularly the safeguards that restrict how long an individual can remain in office as Republican President.

The issue remains a sensitive subject in Zambia’s political landscape, touching on constitutionalism, democratic principles, accountability and the protection of democratic institutions.

However, Mr Simuuwe’s assertion that the majority of Zambians support the removal of presidential term limits raises questions about the basis for determining such public opinion and whether there is indeed a broad national consensus on the matter.

His remarks are expected to attract reactions from opposition political parties, civil society organisations and members of the general public.

  1. majority of Zambians are agreeing on a very dangerous path. scenario 1.: Remove the term limit and HH loses to a ruthless oposition, disaster! Scenario 2: remove term limit and HH rules for how many terms? (there has to be a limit), eventually a monster takes over, disaster!

  2. Which majority you idiot. You mean majority in lopsided parliament? Hold a referendum and see how you will be beaten hands down by the true majority.

  3. And how did our local genius arrive at this conclusion? Where is the evidence? Where is the data?

This is how dictatorship sneaks in. We have been down this road before and usually the loudest advocates will be the first victims.

Mr. Simuwe’s opinion has now become the voice of the majority.

This is the very reason we need the two term limit clause. Power is already getting to some people’s heads.
