MAKEBI LAUGHS AT UPND’S RURAL VOTE PROSPECTS

Honourable Makebi Zulu, the vice-presidential candidate for the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRP-UP), has challenged the ruling United Party for National Development’s (UPND) expectations of retaining rural support in Zambia’s upcoming General Election.

Zulu described this belief as an illusion, asserting that rural voters have grown increasingly disillusioned with the government.

He pointed to the government’s handling of rural farming initiatives—specifically, the distribution of fertilizer in inadequate quantities or packaging, known locally as “medas,” which has caused frustration among farmers.

Since agriculture is the backbone of rural livelihoods, such mismanagement has led to widespread dissatisfaction, eroding the ruling party’s traditional base.
