Makhadzi Postpones Album Release Due To Botswana Ordeal

South African musician Makhadzi has announced that her album has been put on ice until the end of November.

Emerging from court on Wednesday morning, the Limpopo-born star, Makhadzi, said she was emotional after she could not leave Botswana to wrap up her album.

Speaking to journalists outside the Magistrates Court in Gaborone, Makhadzi broke down as she explained that being stranded in Botswana had disrupted her studio schedule and final album preparations.

She announced that the album, which was expected to be released soon, has now been postponed to the end of November.

Makhadzi was facing a P500,000 claim brought by Botswana promoter Gilbert “PP” Seagile of Gilbert Promotions over an alleged breach of agreement for a One Woman Show scheduled for 12 September 2026

Following the dispute, Seagile obtained an ex parte court order which led to her passport being held by the deputy sheriff, preventing her from leaving the country.

The matter, which included fraud allegations linked to the disputed booking, was before the Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning

However, the two parties reached an agreement to settle the matter outside court, and the court allowed Makhadzi to return home to South Africa

The singer said the experience had taken a toll on her emotionally and professionally, as she had studio time and commitments back home that she could not honour while stuck in Gaborone

Her legal team had argued that no formal contract was signed and that she was only approached with a partnership proposal.

With her passport now expected to be released, Makhadzi said she will return to South Africa to complete work on the album before its new release date at the end of November.
