MASSIVE REJECTION: Asian Body Question Lack Of Transparency In FIFA World Cup Private Equity Plan
The Asian Football Confederation has written FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressing concern over World Cup private equity plan describing the lack of transparency as “totally unacceptable.”
The AFC includes South Korea, Japan, and 2034 World Cup hosts Saudi Arabia and 44 other nations.
AFC President Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalita wrote that its 47 member nations are “deeply concerned that FIFA’s actions appear to undermine the very foundation of continental football.”
Africa’s CAF is still consulting before the 54 member body makes its official position.
As it stands continental confederations representing 143 members of FIFA’s 211 member associations representing two thirds of the FIFA Congress are not with Infantino.
UEFA (55 members) and CONCACAF (41 members) have outrightly rejected the proposal.
CAF (54 members), OFC – Oceania (13 members) and CONMEBOL – South America (10 members) are yet to make their position known publicly.
