MATERO PARLIAMENTARY RESULTS DISPUTED
Chaos has characterized the electoral process in Matero Constituency following a dispute over the parliamentary results.
UPND candidate Alex Sakala has, in a dramatic turn of events, taken the lead over TONSE Pamodzi Alliance (Resolute Party) candidate Patrick Mwamba Salubusa, who had earlier led in the constituency and celebrated victory.
TONSE Pamodzi Alliance election agents, led by Lot Siame, have disputed the results from the totaling centre at Matero Boys Secondary School, alleging that figures announced differ from those recorded at polling stations and captured on General Form 20 (Gen20).
As of Sunday midnight, the Matero Constituency Returning Officer had not declared the winner.
This is despite Mr Sakala having conceded defeat on Friday through a post on his official Facebook page.
TONSE Pamodzi Alliance has vowed to petition the results should the Electoral Commission of Zambia declare Mr Sakala duly elected, alleging that some Gen20 forms were completed at the totaling centre without signatures from all participating parties and accredited stakeholders.
The dispute has left the Matero parliamentary race unresolved.
