MBALA MAYOR-ELECT STEWARD SIMUTENDA DIES SIX DAYS AFTER ELECTION
Mbala District is in mourning following the death of Mayor-Elect Steward Simutenda who passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, 19th August 2026.
His brother, Gabriel Simutenda, confirmed he died around midnight on 18th August after an illness.
Mr. Simutenda was elected Mayor of Mbala on the NRPUP ticket during the 13th August 2026 General Elections Despite being hospitalised a week before the polls, he contested and won. R
He previously served as PF District Chairperson for Mbala and later became District Chairperson under NRPUP.
His sudden death, just six days after victory, has shocked residents and political leaders across Mbala.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family.
