Medvedev Warns of Potential Space Conflict Over Russian Satellites, Threatens Starlink

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev has warned that Ukraine’s reported request for the United States to disrupt Russia’s Rassvet satellite constellation could trigger a conflict in space.

Medvedev reacted sharply to Kyiv’s appeal to Washington, warning that any attempt to interfere with Russian satellites could have serious consequences for U.S. space-based infrastructure.

“I hope the Americans understand this, because in this case, their low-orbit Starlink satellites will start falling like toys from a dried-up Christmas tree,” Medvedev wrote on his Telegram channel.

He stressed that outer space is a limited environment where countries must respect one another’s interests, warning against actions that could escalate tensions beyond Earth.

His remarks highlight growing concerns over the militarization of space and the potential for the Russia–Ukraine conflict to expand into satellite infrastructure, which plays a critical role in military communications, navigation and intelligence.
