MERZ TO MOSCOW: NEGOTIATE SERIOUSLY OR GERMANY WILL SUPPORT UKRAINE FOR THE LONG HAUL
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has again called on Russia to enter serious negotiations to end its war against Ukraine.
Merz said there is broad agreement within the European Union that diplomacy remains available—but warned that Moscow’s refusal to negotiate will not weaken Germany’s commitment.
“If Russia is not ready to do that, then we are able and willing to support Ukraine for a long time,” Merz said.
He added that Russia will not win the war and will inflict enormous damage on itself, including on its own economy, by continuing its aggression.
This is the message Moscow must continue hearing from Europe: negotiations are available, but waiting for Ukraine’s partners to grow tired is not a strategy for victory.
