Mining house funding UPND to buy councillors, alleges Mundubile
NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has alleged that a mining company on the Copperbelt is providing the UPND with large sums of money to enable the ruling party to buy off aspiring councillors
Addressing supporters in Chambeshi, Mundubile claimed that the funds were being used to influence opposition officials, although he did not identify the mining company.
He warned mining companies against participating in Zambia’s political affairs.
“There is a mining house on the Copperbelt that is giving the UPND colossal sums of money so the party can buy off councillors. To you mining houses, stay away from Zambian politics; that’s our polite warning,” Mundubile said.
The allegations had not been independently verified at the time of publication, and there was no immediate response from the UPND or any mining company regarding the claims.
