Mirrors are so expensive in Kenya that many people don’t  know how they look like – Actress and former Disney star Skai Jackson

Actress and former Disney star Skai Jackson has sparked widespread conversation online after sharing a story about her visit to Kenya during a recent interview.

Jackson claimed that mirrors are so expensive in parts of Kenya that many people grow up without regularly seeing their own reflection, saying some children only recognize themselves through photographs.

Her comments have since divided opinion. Some social media users said there are remote and low-income communities where household items like mirrors may not be a priority due to poverty. Others, particularly Kenyans, pushed back, arguing that the statement paints an inaccurate picture of the country and generalizes the experiences of millions of people.

The discussion has also reignited conversations about the importance of providing context when sharing personal travel experiences, especially when describing an entire country based on observations from a specific community.

Neither Skai Jackson nor her representatives have publicly clarified or expanded on the remarks since the interview clip began circulating online.
