M’MEMBE ACCUSES SOME POLITICIANS OF PUTTING SELF-INTEREST AHEAD OF PRINCIPLES

Socialist Party President Fred M’membe says events of the past few weeks have exposed what he describes as political opportunists and revealed the difference between personal interests and deeply held convictions

Dr. M’membe says opportunists are driven primarily by personal gain, status and short-term rewards, often changing their behaviour, opinions or alliances depending on what benefits them.

He says unlike opportunists, revolutionaries are driven by a cause, ideology or long-term vision that is bigger than themselves, adding that they view setbacks as lessons and stepping stones towards achieving their objectives.

Dr. M’membe says recent developments have provided an opportunity to observe the true character of some politicians, particularly when they are denied what they want or when relationships and associations no longer serve their interests.

He says difficult circumstances tend to strip away what he describes as fake behaviour and expose people’s real intentions and priorities.

Dr. M’membe has thanked God for what he says has been a revealing period that has helped expose the true colours of some political players.
