M’MEMBE’S RHETORIC CANNOT ERASE MUNDUBILE’S RECORD OF PUBLIC SERVICE – CHISHA
The Tonse Alliance and National Reconciliation Party For Unity & Prosperity (NRPUP) has taken note of the unfortunate remarks made by Socialist Party President Dr. Fred Namakando M’membe questioning the suitability of Tonse Alliance President, Hon. Brian Mundubile, the Presidential Candidate of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), to lead the Republic of Zambia.
While every presidential candidate is entitled to express his views in a democratic society, leadership contests should be anchored on facts, ideas and verifiable records of public service rather than rhetoric intended to diminish the contributions of political competitors.
As young people committed to promoting issue-based politics, we find Dr. M’membe’s remarks both regrettable and misleading. His attempt to portray Hon. Mundubile as a leader without a development record, ignores his years of dedicated public service and tangible achievements that continue to benefit thousands of Zambians.
Hon. Mundubile is not a newcomer to national leadership.
From being Energy Regulation Board Chairman, Hon. Mundubile served as a two term(s) Member of Parliament for Mporokoso Constituency. He also served as Northern Province Minister, Government Chief Whip and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly. These appointments were earned through demonstrated leadership, competence and the trust placed in him by both his constituents and national institutions.
Dr. M’membe’s suggestion that Hon. Mundubile lacks the capacity to govern ignores both his experience and his achievements in public office.
Under Hon. Mundubile’s leadership, Northern Province witnessed some of the most significant infrastructure and investment initiatives in its recent history. The Kasama Airport project, which has become a strategic gateway to the region, was championed under his leadership and was over 90 percent complete by the time he left office. During his tenure, the former Samora Machel Military Base was transformed into a modern civilian airport with a state-of-the-art terminal, improving connectivity and opening up economic opportunities for the province.
His administration also oversaw the construction of several secondary schools and health facilities across Northern Province, expanding access to quality education and healthcare for thousands of citizens.
Hon. Mundubile further championed investment and job creation by facilitating the establishment of two ZAFFICO plantation projects, which continue to provide employment for hundreds of Zambians. He also spearheaded the identification and establishment of the 100,000-hectare Kalungwishi Farm Block, an ambitious agro-industrial initiative projected to create more than 4,000 direct jobs through agricultural industrialization and value addition.
Recognising that sustainable development requires private sector investment, Hon. Mundubile led the successful 2019 Northern Province Investment Expo, which attracted investors and contributed to the development of the province’s first shopping mall, the construction of hotels and the expansion of the hospitality industry.
His long-term vision also extended to tourism through the Kasaba Bay Development Project, an initiative designed to unlock Northern Province’s tourism potential, attract investment and create thousands of employment opportunities for local communities.
These are not political slogans. They are tangible and traceable development initiatives that demonstrate planning, execution and visionary leadership. To suggest that Hon. Mundubile achieved nothing meaningful is not only inaccurate but also dismissive of the progress witnessed by the people of Northern Province.
It is also important to remind Dr. Fred Namakando M’membe that democracy does not require a so-called “purification process” before citizens can seek public office. The Zambian Constitution gives every eligible citizen the right to contest elections, and it is the people and not rival politicians who determine who is fit to govern.
The Tonse Alliance Youths and Students Sector, is not asking Zambians to judge Hon. Mundubile based on political rhetoric. We are asking them to examine his record of public service, compare the vision of all presidential candidates and make an informed decision based on competence, integrity and a demonstrated ability to deliver results.
Hon. Brian Mundubile has consistently demonstrated that leadership is about creating opportunities, expanding infrastructure, attracting investment, strengthening democratic institutions and uniting citizens behind a common national vision. That is the leadership Zambia needs today.
Instead of issuing unfounded attacks on President Brian Mundubile, we urge the Socialist Party leader, Dr. Fred Imakando M’membe to focus on telling the Zambians, what he would do for them, if given a chance to become Republican President.
The Tonse Student Alliance like the millions of Zambians remain fully behind the leadership of Hon Mundubile and come rain and sun will make sure that he is elected as Republican President on the 13th of August, 2026.
