A bizarre political narrative has emerged after Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda, a former MP now a self-styled miracle prophet in exile claimed that more helicopter accidents will happen unless Zambians vote for BRIAN MUNDUBILE & MAKEBI ZULU.
Following the high-profile helicopter accident involving VP Mutale NALUMANGO which sparked concerns across political affiliations, MUNDUBILEs prophet instead went for political mileage and unfortunately, his dramatic predictions and political rants can spread faster than the truth. JJ BANDA knows Zambians have always had a weakness with superstition; and given a microphone & a livestream on social media, it quickly turns into a national broadcast of misinformation.
Its dangerous when accidents and funerals become a political tool presented as divine warnings tied to a particular electoral choice.
A helicopter crash is a serious matter involving aviation safety, investigations, human decisions, and technical factors. Reducing such events to score political goals disrespects victims while creating unnecessary fearmongering among citizens.
A normal Democracy works best when voters are persuaded by ideas, leadership records, and policy choices, not by spreading anxiety and fearmongering using predicted disasters.
History has shown that fear is one of the oldest political currencies. Every election season brings new versions of the same question: But are the Zambian people being informed, or are they being frightened into a decision?
